The rains came back today with their usual Pacific Northwest gusto. The rain here has a rhythm to it that ends up being quite monotone…not too hard, not too light, just an endless wet that feels like it says it is here to stay. Bummer.
I have to admit that I have enjoyed the summer we have had…warm, hot even, hardly any rain, sunny, beautiful. For a time, I could forget about the rest of the year when the rain is just part of the scenery and something that should be expected to be seen most days when you wake up and look out the window. Its pretty much a given.
The upsides to the continual rain is the amazing scenery blanketing the mountains. After 24 years of living here, you would think that I would have become completely accustom to the views and, to a point, I know I have, but it seems like at least one a week, I catch a view that just makes all thought stop with its beauty. If/when I ever move from here, it will be those unexpected views that I will miss the most.
The clouds have been really amazing this year. If it were not for being in the driver’s seat most of the time, I would have overwhelmed you all with the photos I would have taken to the point that they would start to all look the same. I have to be honest, though. I do not think I could get too many pictures in the midst of the masterpiece of landscape I live in and part of me regrets not pulling over to take more pictures. Life has been busy.
With the rain, the gremlin of depression always tries to work its way in. So far, I am not really feeling the effects of it, just the lingering feeling that that monster is hiding under the bed. Thankfully, I have the patent to work on to pre-occupy my mind, which is great depression gremlin kryptonite.
With the first real sign that Fall is just minutes away, I find myself thinking/wondering about the clouds. As I said, they have been quite amazing. When the rains are finally here to stay and the Sun is gone until next June (ok. being a small bit dramatic. Spring brings occasional sun with the rain) will the clouds go back to their normal, flat gray, undefined, slate-like appearance or will I still be graced with shapely layers full of definition and obsure light play? I hope for the latter but am fairly certain of the former. I guess we shall see.
I’ve posted a few photos I took of some clouds this evening over at The Lens. Go check them out if you’d like. And remember…feedback is always appreciated.
